A Personalised Approach
Chinese medicine does not begin with a one-size-fits-all treatment.
Your first appointment includes time to discuss:
-
- Your main concern
- Your general health
- Previous injuries or treatments
- Medication and supplements
- Sleep, digestion and energy
- Relevant lifestyle factors
Dr Jeff will then discuss whether acupuncture or another Chinese medicine approach may be suitable for you.

What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice in which very fine needles are placed at selected points on the body.
The choice of points and treatment method is guided by your consultation and individual presentation.
Acupuncture may be used as part of a wider care plan rather than as a replacement for necessary medical investigation or treatment.
What Happens During a Session?
1. Consultation
Dr Jeff discusses your health concern and relevant medical history.
2. Assessment
Your symptoms and general presentation are considered from a Chinese medicine perspective.
3. Treatment
Fine needles are placed at selected points.
Depending on your needs, the session may also include other appropriate Chinese medicine methods.
4. Guidance
Where relevant, Dr Jeff may discuss practical movement, rest, food or self-care considerations to support your treatment plan.
Does Acupuncture Hurt?
Most people experience little discomfort when the needles are inserted.
You may notice:
-
- A brief prick
- Heaviness or warmth
- Tingling
- A dull sensation around a point
- Deep relaxation
Mild bruising, tenderness, light-headedness or a small amount of bleeding can occasionally occur.
Tell Dr Jeff immediately when anything feels uncomfortable.

Common Questions
How many sessions will I need?
This cannot be decided before your first consultation.
The number and frequency of sessions depend on your concern, general health and response to treatment.
Dr Jeff will discuss a suitable approach with you after assessment.
Is acupuncture safe?
Acupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by a suitably qualified practitioner using appropriate sterile procedures.
As with any treatment, side effects and risks are possible.
Your medical history should therefore be discussed before treatment begins.
Can I have acupuncture while receiving other treatment?
Often, yes.
Tell Dr Jeff about all medication, treatment and healthcare practitioners involved in your care.
Acupuncture should complement necessary healthcare rather than interrupt it.
Is Tui Na training included?
No.
Clinical treatment and online education are separate services.
Tui Na self-care learning can be found through Recovery & Resilience.
